We citizens must take the responsibilities our law enforcement personnel face seriously.
The recent retirement of Tim Melin reminded me that he and fellow officers are often put into mortal danger just to protect us residents.
In his long career Melin was a first responder in the truest sense and as such a first-line defender. His successful and long career as a police officer-- as recently noted in the Dispatch -- along with voluntary military service with the National Guard demonstrate a high level of commitment. Clearly, he is a credit to his family, community, state and country.
So, thank you Officer Melin for serving and protecting with great dignity the citizens. You are without a doubt an outstanding example of real public service.
Enjoy a well earned and greatly deserved long retirement with your family.
