Reader Opinion: The arc of the universe

The ongoing cacophonies of hoots and hollers by sides that fail to recognize they reside on similar arcs is worthy of being side-lined.

Stack of newspapers on a laptop computer.

Recently arrived imagery from our newest and most capable space telescope is revelatory and relevant to both our pasts and futures.

As compelling as the visuals is the enthusiasm of the astrophysicists as they describe the newly resplendent jewels now better visible in this crowning achievement.

Key to the success is that we are seeing things that were not revealed earlier, as infrared light is beyond the scope of our natural vision.

Reaching beyond easily available perceptions is opening up new vistas that may be similar to what more powerful microscopes brought to us earlier.

That too small to see and yet existed is now more capably contrasted with that which is too large to easily understand.

While it is possible that the new images are “fake news,” the astrophysicist community is, from Sagan to deGrasse Tyson, devoted to detailed empirical analysis.

As their astrologer counterparts can be enchanted with ancient superstitions; each of us is able to invest our accrediting to accounts which serve us best.

Closer to home, MPR’s production arm, APM, gives us a stellar insight into the universe of human genius as it features young musicians performing the most difficult compositions in the most natural ways. No detail too unimportant — the term nuance is given life as magically as an emergent spring blossom in an otherwise barren environment.

The ongoing cacophonies of hoots and hollers by sides that fail to recognize they reside on similar arcs is worthy of being side-lined.

The richer and rewarding benefits may be perhaps found in the more simple substances.
