Reader Opinion: The pandemic

As the virus situation worsens in our country, I want to say thanks to all of those who are doing their best to make it easier for all of us. It is at times like this that many of us rely on our leaders to steer us in the right direction. My hat goes off to the governors, mayors and congresspeople who have surrounded themselves with experts, and listen to them, and are trying to alleviate the pain and set the course we should be taking. It is a huge responsibility that most of them are trying to take quite seriously.

Yet at the same time there are people who should be making smart decisions on the national level who seem to be getting in the way. They too have smart people working for them but it is of little use when you don’t listen to them. Bill Gates was on television the other night with some sound advice that will probably be ignored by the White House. Bill and his wife have long been on the forefront of making this world a better place for all of us. He showed us his true colors a long time ago. He is a smart man and people should listen up. It is my hope that the experts in our government who are not being listened to do not become frustrated and stay the course.

There are no good answers or easy answers for fighting this pandemic, when politics and money become part of the rhetoric, as it has. The only important things here are the human beings that make up this great country. From the skid row people to the rich in their gilded palaces we are all important. We all need a chance.
