John Ward will be a very effective addition to the Brainerd School Board. John is passionate about education, kids, and people in general. He finds something to like and appreciate in everyone he meets. He understands how the role of teachers has changed and grown over the past decades. At a recent candidate forum he contrasted his early days of teaching when he would come into his new classroom and start planning his bulletin boards to today’s teacher who starts the school year by planning the safest place for students to hide, should a shooter be on campus. He understands that current community needs require a changing and thoughtful response from schools. John brings a deep understanding of school financing, enrollment and other issues based on his legislative experience on the state Education Committee. He’s a thoughtful listener and a good problem solver. We need John Ward on our School Board.
