As we are looking at a national death toll five, possibly 10 times greater than Sept. 11, possibly the highest death toll of any country on the planet, we have to wonder why? There is no excuse for citizens of this country to suffer worse with higher death rates than citizens almost everywhere else, including almost all European countries, and all Asian countries, including China. We have to look at our national leadership, a president who demeans scientific knowledge, and wasted critical weeks denying the existence of a crisis. You can deny reality, you cannot make it go away. We also have to take a look at a health care system that spends more money on plastic surgery and fancy clinic lobbies than on stockpiling basic protective equipment for its employees. Every time I see a fancy new lobby at a local health care facility I wonder how many masks could have been purchased with all that money.
