So I want to state I am a former student, instructor and past co-teacher of the year in 1979 of District 181 and have promoted District 181 throughout the state of Minnesota and other various communities since that time as I have traveled extensively. I am proud of the educational institutions in the Brainerd/Baxter area and their graduates. Therefore, I would like to add a tidbit of educational knowledge behind naming the new facility.
First off, why does it need a name attached? Is the gym named, is the swimming pool named, and why aren't the others sections or parts of each school named?
Second, if it needs a name, have it represent the geographical populous in the area and each specific word has to have a meaning thereof that it represents. Select a title name that enhances what it is trying to represent over all, such as Central Minnesota Performing Arts Studio. Why have these words in the title? Central Minnesota, covers everything from east to west and south to north of the towns for multi-nationalities. The word performing, rather than performance, connotes what is happening there when it's in use. Arts, when defined correctly, is the type of arts that are presented, not just music or theater. Studio is recognized/defined as a place for study/presentation of art such as dancing, singing, orchestral, acting, radio and television, and visual arts.
I believe the general public that are/were funding this facility should have more of a say in naming said building then just a generalized committee and school board.
