Reader Opinion: Workforce needs immigrants

As any farmer can tell you, immigrants are needed to do the low-paid, hard work of field hands and chicken processors.

Stack of newspapers on a laptop computer.

In the past week we have seen Florida Governor DeSantis fly 50 Latin American migrants from Texas to Marthaโ€™s Vineyard, with the idea these people should be stopped at the U.S. border. As any farmer can tell you, immigrants are needed to do the low-paid, hard work of field hands and chicken processors. People in Minnesota, as in much of the country, are getting older. More working-age people are needed to pay taxes and social security. Although in the past, most immigrants were of European origin, now itโ€™s black and brown people who are coming in to work.

We can only produce economic security through diversity.
