I am certain there are numerous stories of people in the Brainerd lakes area stepping forward to help others in need during the recent cold snap. Today, I experienced one of those stories first hand. After having no school for three days in a row the septic lines at our school froze up. While waiting for the plumbing experts to come and thaw the lines, Baymont Inn and Suites in Baxter opened their doors to more than 100 children to come and use their restrooms. Their staff went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure our students were taken care of. The whole ordeal took less than two hours but it gave me a chance to see firsthand how people in our community come together to solve problems in a time of need. Thank you, Baymont, for showing our students unparalleled hospitality during a difficult situation. Not all learning takes place in the classroom!

Gratefully,
