I'm writing with regard to the Nativity scene. As a college professor I think it's important to remind them that Jesus is not only a religious figure, Jesus is also a historical figure. There is more evidence supporting the existence of Jesus than there is to support the existence
of Abraham Lincoln. Cities have the right to celebrate local, national or global historical figures. For example: Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. In addition, it is a scene of a family celebrating the birth of a child and community support (people bringing gifts). This is a great message for a community to send out. How could it insult anyone?
We mark our years in the U.S. from the birth of Jesus. We should have a statue for a historical figure this significant. Further, anyone who thinks Jesus would exclude anybody from being welcome in the community either didn't read or understand the bible. And doesn't our money still say, "In God we Trust" on it?
