I am appalled at the audacity of the county board for allowing Bob Nelson's former supervisors to complete his performance review and to indicate his performance only met most, but not all, performance expectations. Nelson was encouraged to evaluate how service for veterans could be improved and how to improve processing to effectively advocate for veterans.
This was never the problem; his former supervisors hold a grudge because he stood up for veterans and did not allow faulty supervision to blind his steadfast devotion to veterans with very effective service. His former supervisors have no knowledge of the needs of veterans and are not qualified to rate him.
You would think that after the massive turnout of the public in support of Nelson that the board and county administrator would have taken action to squash this inappropriate rating.
I think that consideration for a recall of certain board members may be needed to correct the one-sided mindset. I call for all veterans to once again band together and call the board members to express their displeasure with this decision, it must be overturned.
Veterans meet every Thursday from 8-10 a.m. at the 371 Diner, they also meet every Monday at 9 a.m. at the Airport Café. I urge you to attend to remain in solidarity and keep updated on current activities.
