I'm very upset about the Ditch 13 assessment on my taxes. I'm paying an additional $359 for something that is not even connected to my land and of no benefit to me. My marsh drains into Perch Lake and is not even connected to Lake Edward. This was based on surveys done 100 years ago. I believe there was a channel connecting to Lake Edward but it's no longer there and has been gone for at least 50 years. I was told it would cost over $100,000 to update the surveys and that there were no funds for it.
People that buy lakeshore that is level with the lake should expect it to rise and fall some years. I feel that only people affected should be the ones to pay to open the ditch. When this came up I was under the impression that taxes would rise $1 to $10, not $359. The surveys need to be updated.
