In view of the recent criticism directed to the Veterans Administration and the care of veterans I felt compelled to write this letter. I am new, a rookie, to VA. I was recently awarded 20 percent disability due to hearing loss as a result of noise exposure during my military service.
My first contact with VA was in September of 2013 through Bob Nelson, veterans service officer in Crow Wing County. I had never met anyone in government service that was as caring, helpful and concerned about helping veterans as Bob. He is very professional and has the unique ability to put it on a personal level. He made my initial claim extremely easy and I was very comfortable in dealing with him. Bob is a real credit to VA.
On May 14, 2014, I had my first appointments at the St. Cloud facility. The appointments went very smoothly and everyone was very friendly and helpful. I must have had a lost look on my face while wandering the halls as several times employees asked me if I needed help. That was appreciated.
On May 16, 2014 I had my first appointment at the Brainerd facility. This was for my blood work, meeting with the pharmacist and initial physical with Dr. Hayes. I was extremely impressed with the entire Brainerd staff. They were very friendly, informative and demonstrated a real concern for my health. The staff was professionalism with a personal touch. The entire experience was very rewarding and not at all what one reads about the VA in other states. Every appointment was on time.
Too many people only write letters to complain about something. I like to write letters when people do good. You did good.
