Did you ever have a corporate darling as a boss that you absolutely hated? You waited daily for that person to be transferred, quit, fired or possibly even perish in an automobile crash. Respected by none, supported by a minority and loathed by the majority.
FM22-100 military leadership defines leadership as the process of influencing others to accomplish the mission by providing purpose, direction, and motivation.
These are the principles of military leadership. Know yourself and seek self-improvement. Be technically and tactically proficient. Seek responsibility and take responsibility for your actions. Make sound and timely decisions. Set the example. Know your soldiers and look out for their well-being. Keep your subordinates informed. Develop a sense of responsibility in your subordinates. Ensure the task is understood, supervised, and accomplished. Build the team. Employ your unit in accordance with its capabilities.
Remove the military connotations from those principles and then apply them to our elected officials beginning with our president and ending with a county sheriff and all the elected in- between. You shouldn't be concerned about a sheriff's ability to travel this path but we should be concerned about our representation in Washington who have lost touch with the people they're suppose to represent. They seem void of any leadership traits, blind to fiscal responsibility and demonstratively lacking ethics, beliefs and values. So why did we elect them? Because that's my party? Because we didn't like the other guy? Because it must be a woman? Because they were African American, Native American, Muslim, Hispanic or gay? Leadership is not about being fashionable and neither should your vote..
Pelosi, McConnell, Schumer and Trump, leaders? I think not.
