As Yogi would say, "It's like deja vu all over again." We just went through all this over the veterans service officer. Nystrom and Houge are frustrated that no one told them about workplace conditions. Who were you expecting to hear from? Administrator and department heads? The same ones who have made it clear, "We don't want to hear any negatives." Do you ever talk to employees? While we were fighting for our VSO, we had support from Crow Wing County employees, incognito of course, for fear of retribution. Koering is quoted, "What, you think we would fire you?" Except for 300 veterans, you were prepared to fire the most respected VSO in the state. Krista Jones was prepared to provide four pages of complaints but of course Tim Houle wants those to go through the "proper chain of command." How`s that worked so far? Kara Terry has admitted she botched responsibility with task force study. By all expert testimony, the probation department is working very well as is and there has not been any real evidence, facts and figures of cost savings or improved efficiency for such a change. In fact, we should be asking what is the downside potential for conflicts of interest in integration. More importantly, after Thiede's comment, "Quite frankly, I don't trust judges and law enforcement," should scare hell out of all of us. Who is next in this power struggle? Sheriff, county attorney? We already lost our right to vote for auditor-treasurer and recorder, so this regime can hand pick their cronies. And after Koering's comment, "Have you beaten your wife lately?" they should both step down or be voted out.
