The proposal to add .05 percent sales tax to all of Crow Wing County for county road maintenance is a very interesting deal as it will increase our opportunity to improve our standing in the list of most taxed state in the nation. Currently Minnesota is 47th in the list of most taxed states in the nation and this would give us the help needed to increase our standings. Only in California, New York and New Jersey are residents more overall taxed than us folks Minnesota.
By adding this tax it would make other states look that much more appealing for business relocation and moving population to other states. Between added taxation and an average 2 percent to 3 percent annual inflation rate, all geared to reduce purchasing power, many individuals will reduce purchases so other new taxes will be needed and so the cycle of separation between the haves and have-nots continues.
