On Tuesday I was intrigued to read in the Dispatch that the local Republican endorsing convention was held inside the Mills Shooting Range in Baxter.
This seemed like an odd place to hold such a public event. Usually such caucuses and endorsing conventions are held in public places. Places that public dollars have paid to build in many cases, such as school cafeterias or Legion halls, that are also run as nonprofits. That such an event would be held in a for-profit facility and one that is owned by a Republican candidate seemed out of character with the Republican Party. Cronyism? Hmm.
One fellow workout colleague jokingly commented that maybe they were "loading up" for the Republican convention in Cleveland this summer.
I encourage both parties to continue holding such democratic procedures in public facilities.
