Republican State Rep. Randy Jessup is complaining that an organization selling mini-doughnuts from a booth at the State Fair is donating its proceeds to the DFL party. Never mind that this group has been doing it for at least 50 years. He's quoted as saying, "Is it right to deceive people making a purchase, and then having it become a political contribution?" Deceive? So, he's introduced a bill in the Legislature to restrict the organization's activity.

How about the other vendors at the Fair? Is he going to target the hot dog, cookie, French fries, lemonade, cotton candy, and other doughnut people also? After all, they can take proceeds from their ventures and could donate them to a political cause also.

It's so obvious that Jessup thinks that going on a partisan witch hunt is a priority for him. It's no wonder that our Legislature has not yet taken care of the big, important issues that face our state. It's had to waste time and money to deal with nonsense like Jessup's.
