County Commissioners Franzen, Nystrom, Koering and Houge listened to the citizens and not the appointed bureaucrats by voting 4 to 1 to keep Bob Nelson as our Crow Wing County veterans service officer. There are always two sides to every issue and there are many times our elected officials are asked to vote on some very difficult issues.
I congratulate and thank the four of you elected officials for listening to your constituents.
The county bureaucrats have now raised the issue about relocating the office of the veterans service officer. Please give that decision a lot of thought and research before voting to relocate the office. Why would you want to add increased cost for your constituents? The office is handicapped accessible being located on the ground floor and citizens know where it is located. Furthermore it wasn't the office location that caused the controversy. It was overzealous bureaucrats, who evidently don't have enough to do, that caused the problem.
I personally believe Crow Wing County Administrator Houle is in the background raising many issues that we are hearing about. He believes he must streamline county services. I really feel what he wants is to be the CEO of Crow Wing County. Instead of following the decisions made by the county board and making sure the bureaucrats carry out the county board's decisions, he wants to be the one making those decisions.
