It's time we try on the same hogwash Republicans are offering up to explain the Trump campaign's 100 contacts with Russia, foot dragging on implementation of sanctions, and siding with Putin over U.S. intelligence services over their conclusion that Russia interfered in the 2016 election. How does it sound when the Trump defense is used for Democratic presidents instead of the course of actions they took? How would history judge Democrats saying FDR needed privacy to develop a relationship with Emperor Hirohito? How would history judge Democrats saying JFK's chats with Khrushchev should be off the record so he could build a personal relationship with him? How would history judge Democrats for getting surly and demanding all of LBJ's communication with Ho Chi Minh be held in the strictest of confidence so their relationship could bloom into best friends? Making such absurd rationalizations about Trump's communications with Putin is grasping at straws.
Trump spent only 7 percent of allocated funds for border security last biennium. Trump's charity was forced closed by the courts for many reasons, among them taking donations for a charity drive designated for kids with cancer. Republicans controlled the House, Senate, and White House for two years and, given that advantage, Trump still couldn't build consensus in his own party for this monument to stupidity, the wall. The wall isn't Trump's objective. Making ever shifting demands, draining the Treasury and crippling the federal government seems to be his mission. Trump leveraged the animosities of his supporters toward racial and religious minorities and turned it against our country. Hate has poisoned all of us. Greg Olson
