This year's National Day of Prayer will be Thursday, May 5, from noon to 1 p.m. at the National Guard Armory at 1115 Wright St., in Brainerd. The theme for this year's National Day of Prayer is "Wake Up, America," based on the verse in the Bible in the book of Isaiah, chapter 58, the first part of verse 1. Quoting from the Bible, it says, "Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet..."
The National Day of Prayer is a vital part of our heritage. Since the first call to prayer in 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, a call to prayer has continued throughout our history, including President Lincoln's proclamation of a day of "humiliation, fasting and praying" in 1863. Last year, all 50 state governors plus the governors of several U.S. territories signed similar proclamation.
Quoting our first American President in 1789, George Washington said, "It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God."
I pray that many across the world will make this a top priority on Thursday, May 5, 2016.
Thank you for listening and may God bless you. Jesus Christ is coming back for his followers.
