Our hearts cried out when we read the Dispatch article regarding the devastation of the river bank just north of French Rapids. To some, the "mansion" erected in the midst of what was pristine old growth forest and the complete denuding of the river bank is perfectly OK. To us, it represents the arrogance of those who profess and teach that wealth and prosperity are a symbol of "God's favor" bestowed on the "true believer." It is a rapacious display of ecological ignorance and shouts of a selfish disregard for creation and the Creator.

The claim that the entire slope to the river was cleared because of blowdown is an insult to the intelligence of all who travel the river. We can not change what has been done but rest assured we will keep careful watch to make very sure this activity is not repeated. Our river deserves that we all seek to protect and cherish not destroy or try to control this natural environment.
