This past week we honored some of our nation's heroes on Veterans Day. We honored the men and women who bravely fought to protect our country. On this one day of the year we take the time to thank them and appreciate them, but many days, we simply forget them - and the sacrifices they have made for us.
We should choose to honor them each day and do all we can to give back to them. However, Congressman Rick Nolan has chosen to vote against our military men and women by voting against the National Defense Authorization Act. NDAA had bipartisan support, yet our local U.S. representative did not support it. Nolan voted against the bill that would provide the needed resources that would ensure our national defense and address many international threats around the world.
The bill had overwhelming support by both Republicans and Democrats, including some of our U.S. Democrat representatives from Minnesota, yet Rep. Nolan still voted against the measure. The bill managed to pass, 370-58, even without Rep. Nolan's vote, but was then later vetoed by President Obama.
Ultimately, supporting our veterans and military men and women should not be a political decision. It should not be a decision we make based on whether we are Democrats or Republicans. We should support those men and women because they have put everything on the line for us. We should support them because they have kept us safe and have defended us, giving us the freedoms we have. We need a congressman who will also defend the rights of our military. We need a congressman who will support them and do all in their power to honor them. That person is not Congressman Rick Nolan.
