If you're feeling powerless in politics right now, take heart! A week ago, the U.S. House Appropriations Committee, with bipartisan support, restored the $300 million budgeted for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. This project has been supporting Great Lakes cleanup efforts since George W. Bush was in office. It protects clean water for drinking and recreational purposes by removing mercury, restoring wetlands and wild rice beds, and re-establishing wildlife habitat.
What you can do now: Tell your congressional representatives to keep this funding in the final congressional budget plan.
