Talking About Brainerd is a group of Brainerd residents who first got together in November to talk about our community-its good points, its bad and, most importantly, how to make it better. We care about our community and we want to make Brainerd a city whose residents brag about living here, about all her amenities-a place where anyone would want to live.
Most of us prefer talking outside of a public meeting, which can be intimidating. That's why we get together informally, on the second Thursday of each month.
This month, at 6 p.m. on April 14 in the Brainerd Public Library large meeting room, we plan to talk about our city budget, about taxes. We want to know what you think, if you have questions or concerns about how your tax dollars are spent. We will take those concerns to the city council for answers that we will bring to our May get together.
For instance, why are the sidewalks in Gregory Park often plowed before the area streets are clear? How come there is money to install a brand new tennis court there when there is no place in our community for skateboarders? Why isn't there money to make the downtown sidewalks safe in the winter? Is the city doing all it can to require rental property owners to maintain safe properties-we all remember the murders that took place across from St. Francis church school.
Please join us to talk about taxes and to bring up other concerns you might have. Help us make Brainerd the best place to live and raise your family.
