During the Christmas season, it's always such a pleasure to see houses decorated beautifully with many strings of lights on various buildings and trees. Often a part of these displays includes a Nativity scene. Of course, as the saying goes, which is heard often at Christmas time, Jesus is the reason for the season. Not only do we see these on private property, but at times in front of public buildings and even in parks. The display in dispute happened to be in Wadena.
Imagine my dismay when I read an article in the Dispatch recently reporting that Tyler Rud, apparently after thinking it over for a while, decided this lovely display was inappropriate because of it's location and was compelled to contact the Freedom From Religion Foundation in protest.
Congratulations to Mayor George Deiss who will be working to enable this display to be seen again in the same location - remembering that 75 percent of Americans agree that Nativity scenes and other Christmas displays should be allowed to be displayed on public grounds. It seems that high numbers seem to make the biggest impact to various organizations, so if a petition would be written up making it possible that the Nativity scene appear again next year in the same place, my husband and I plus many other people who drove by the display last December would very likely be eager and happy to add their signatures.
Now, as Tiny Tim once expressed - "God bless us, Everyone!"
