A March 27 letter writer made some good points on qualities to look for in choosing a presidential candidate to support. However, he really missed the mark when he said, "Make sure your candidate ... doesn't use fear ... to get your vote."

Such a candidate does not exist. Every candidate uses fear as a means to convince one to vote for him/her. There isn't one who won't tell us that voting for an opponent would be against our best interests.

Hillary and Bernie tell us that Donald and Ted would wreck our country and vice-versa. Cruz says that Trump would be a disaster as a president.

And then we have the inevitable onslaught of negative ads utilized by the candidates and their supporters. These ads are designed and used to create fear.

It's actually the nature of political campaigning to use fear in order to secure votes. We can't escape it.
