Education needs to be diverse and ever changing like our society. We are gifted with public education that can always improve. I believe most educators are continuously trying to make the changes necessary to teach our young minds. There was another letter in the paper highly critical of teachers and I have to wonder what the motive is. I also wonder what affiliation they have with legislators. There is a movement to end public education and bring religion into the schools. To me this is a disaster and reflects intolerance of diversity in this country. In the not so distant past native children were pulled from their homes and placed in so-called Christian schools intent on teaching them to be white. They were robbed of their native language and told they cannot practice their religion. If there ever was or is a reason not to have religion running our schools that is it. The Indian nations were almost destroyed by the very people who left their own countries to escape religious persecution. There is a reason there is a separation of church and state, study our history. Study the histories of other countries. We need public education, we need a level playing field for all to have opportunity. We need to support education and training for jobs. We have a lot of rebuilding to do in this country. We need skilled workers who have a hope to make a living wage. So let's build!
