I have lived all of my life in the United States of America. I am proud to be a citizen of the United States. I have lived believing the statement "United we stand, divided we fall" was most certainly true. Then there was "All for one, and one for all." Oh yes, My freedom ends where your nose begins. We have laws to follow, and if someone breaks those laws, police have the right to arrest you. That is their job, and we law abiding citizens respect them for protecting us. If you end up in court, a person has the right to have an attorney to represent them. Our judicial system was deemed to be the best to be found-a judge presides over the court and a jury consists of your peers. They listen to both sides of the case and come up with a verdict. That should be the end of it but suddenly we seem to be sliding backwards, disregarding all of these rules and our peaceful United States are becoming filled with mass violence. Is this how we really want our next generation to grow up-living in fear? I think it's high time to look back on what it means to have respect for one another, and perhaps we must all start remembering and begin once again to live by the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Can't we all join in singing that wonderful song-"Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me." Hopefully we can once more become a United States of America, but we must all unite together to get this accomplished.
