Something that has always bothered me is when people "celebrate the Fourth of July" rather than "celebrating Independence Day." Do you realize that Independence Day is the only holiday where we celebrate the date rather than the event? How many of us celebrate Jan. 1 or June 14 or any other number of dates?

Independence Day is one of our most important holidays and we need to remember why we are celebrating. July 1 was "Canada Day" in Canada and I never heard anyone celebrating July 1, but many references to it being "Canada Day."
