A great deal has been said recently about Rep. Josh Heintzeman and the fact that he and his wife have chosen to homeschool their children. I do not understand why some people have to attack a family for making a personal choice of this nature. I have met the Heintzeman children and they are some of the most well-mannered and intellectual children I have ever met.
I understand teachers are going to defend their profession and think that all children should be in a public school but I ask why then do high school students strive to get into private colleges?
Should we not all want the best for our children? Yes, we in the lakes area have some fantastic schools, with amazing teachers who are dedicated to the education of the children of our area. I know Rep. Heintzeman is very proud of the schools in our area. That, however, does not mean we should attack anyone who makes a choice to not send their child to a public school for whatever reason.
As for Mr. Femling and his comments March 18, I ask you to please not look at the children like dollar signs.
