We forget that life continues on its own schedule and pays absolutely no attention to what we might prefer. That is especially true of decision-making. We all have found the perfect item only to find that we waited too long making up our minds and missed our chance to buy it.
In life an opportunity presents itself and if we do not recognize it or we dither, trying to decide, it disappears. We might rationalize that it was not for us or that we were wisely cautious.
It is about living life in the moment and being able to recognize when that thing we have been waiting for is suddenly available. If we fail to act in the moment, our lives are forever changed due to our lack of courage. It will become easier to justify letting the next window of opportunity close before we act.
That is the case with many things occurring in nature right now. Unless we act we will be left with the negative consequences. One example is the enormous change that is staring us in the face if we do not begin to curtail the human causes of climate change. Another example is failing to act to prevent species extinction which eventually may include us. In these cases there are clearly better options we can take.
The other area, and equally important, is the slow erosion of democracy, especially in this country. We seem to be willing to allow the growing authoritarianism to replace democracy. We allow voting rights to be manipulated. We allow money to replace the voices of the people.

If we do not stop this slide down this slippery slope of authoritarianism, the window of opportunity to save democracy will close.
Act now, while the window is still open.
