Since her being appointed to the city council I have gotten to know a little bit about Dolly Matten. She took the boots off and waded into the Mississippi River Project full steam. She also recognizes that there is more to Brainerd than just a two mile stretch of river. The Mississippi River Project is a fantastic opportunity to get activities going to benefit the citizens of Brainerd first and foremost and will tie in with many other projects regionally and statewide.

The Rotary Riverside Park is working on getting a natural habitat area going for a wildlife and bird sanctuary type thingy. Then we have Kiwanis Park where we can hold a lot of community type events. Between those two parks there will be a lot of things going on for Brainerd citizens and potential visitors. Then follow up through downtown and to the railroad shops for a railroad museum. Follow through with some walkable/bike trails to Lum Park and more activities. We do after all have two river parks, right?

I have full confidence that Dolly Matten can think outside the box and can look at things both objectively and subjectively. Like myself she is not a Brainerd native and can look at things from a different perspective. I am aware of many meetings she has attended off the grid. She also sits on the city planning commission.

Dolly is a new breath of air for Brainerd and has earned your vote in the election. From personal meetings, which she always found time for regardless of other council business, I seriously doubt she will be a career politician.
