Sacred, ancestral lands could be returned to the Upper Sioux Community under legislation heard Wednesday in a committee. The transfer would close the Upper Sioux Agency State Park near Granite Falls.

Xcel Energy oversaw the implosion of the former Minnesota Valley electric generation plant in Granite Falls on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022. The plant generated electricity from 1930 to 2004, and was officially retired in 2009.

Alex John Schlangen pleaded guilty in Yellow Medicine County District Court to illegal discharge of a firearm and a charge of domestic assault was dismissed for an incident in the city of Granite Falls.
