She aims to be the first solo kayaker to retrace the Fort Snelling to York Factory route made famous by Eric Sevareid and Walter Port and those who followed.
Two deaths were reported Sunday on the Minnesota River in Renville County. The body of Matthew James Wrobleski, 48, of Willmar, was discovered Sunday afternoon in a log jam between Franklin and Morton. Authorities also identified apparent drowning victim Lance Edward Scheer, 19, of Redwood Falls, who was pulled from the water after he had been swimming in the river near Vicksburg Park. Both incident are under investigation.

The Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled that Limbo Creek is a public water, and that an environmental review must be completed before a proposed project to excavate a channel in it can be approved. The Renville County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to petition the state's high court to review the decision.

A Craftsman-style bungalow built in 1910 in Bird Island has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.
