In August 1978, Deputy Richard Magnuson had been at the Roseau (Minnesota) County Sheriff’s Office for about 2 ½ months. On Aug. 2, 1978, his life was cut short at the age of 20 when he was the final victim of a series of killings by Gregory McMaster.
"Northern Exposure: Driving Electric in Minnesota," hosted by the Roseau Electric Cooperative, was a free event to educate people in the area about the benefits and possibilities of electric vehicles.
Allan Hetteen died in a November 1973 farm accident, but in July, his son, Mike, of Roseau, was able to relive a bit of Polaris history when he visited the glacier site where his dad, David Pearson and Harold Johnson had tested those Comet snowmobiles 58 years earlier.
Thursday morning, on the last day of school for students in Roseau, a deer crashed through the window of the nurse’s office before scrambling out the office door, down the hallway and through the north door of the elementary school back into the wild.

After 10 years in the Minnesota House of Representatives, Dan Fabian says he wasn’t planning to run for mayor when he decided to leave the Legislature and return to Roseau. The rumor is true, said Rep. Dan Fabian, R-District 1A, who last week agreed to be a write-in candidate in the uncontested race for mayor in Roseau, Minn. No other candidates filed before the Aug. 11 deadline to get their names on the ballot.

Sixteen years ago, when Kate first moved to Roseau, she thought it would be the perfect place to raise a family. She fell hard for the small town at the top of the state.
Madi, 8, saved the life of her 5-year-old brother, John, after he fell into a fast-moving drainage ditch and got swept through a large culvert on the county road northeast of Strathcona in southern Roseau County where the family lives.
