Izabella Edin of Staples was named to the first United States Tennis Association Junior Leadership Team, which recognizes America's finest junior tennis players who exhibit leadership, sportsmanship and character on and off the court.

Edin is among nearly 30 players nationwide named to the USTA Junior Leadership Team. Each player was nominated by his or her USTA Section for their excellence in tennis and in the community.

Edin has been ranked No. 13 in the USTA Girls 18 Northern section rankings and in the Top 400 nationally, despite having Type 1 Diabetes. She has become an advocate for playing tennis while managing Type 1 Diabetes. Edin was a 2015 regional recipient of the Novo Nordisk Donnelly Award, which awards scholarships to teen tennis players living with diabetes. In the fall of 2015, Edin was awarded with the prestigious USTA Northern Jerry Noyce Girls Junior Sportsmanship Award.

"Tennis has given me the opportunity to teach people about Type 1 Diabetes," Edin said in a news release. "I started playing in summer rec. Tennis has played a very important role in my life. It's shaped me into the person I am today. I've met most of my friends through tennis, and we've bonded through Zonals. It's kept me in shape and mentally tough."
