Volleyball: Brainerd stumbles against Rocori

Courtney Russell and Avery Eckman contributed 11 and 10 kills respectively in a 3-1 Central Lakes Conference loss to Class 2A's 10th-ranked Rocori Spartans Thursday at Brainerd High School.

Rocori entered the match tied for the CLC lead at 3-0, 8-1 overall, and ranked seventh in the Quality Results Formula.

"We were up the first game at 24 and served into the net and lost 26-24," said Brainerd head coach Rick Kuehlwein. "If we had won that first set, it might have been different."

Rocori took the second set 25-13 before Brainerd rallied to win the third 27-25. The Spartans put the match away 25-14 in the fourth.

"We were right there and just faded at the end," said Kuehlwein. "The tempo was good and the effort's there. They're ready to win a game. I can tell you that. We're getting better."

Eckman and Eleanor Peabody each registered nine digs.
