Pierz senior Reese Kapsner couldn't recover.

The fourth-seeded Kapsner was bested by the top-seeded and defending state champion Cade Mueller of Waconia in the championship semifinals of the Class 2A State Individual Championships Saturday, March 2 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

That pushed Kapsner into the wrestlebacks where he fell to Scott Wests Jace Demmers 4-2.

That loss pushed Kapsner into the fifth-place match, which ended up being a rematch of the championship quarterfinals against Litchfield's Logan Nelson. Kapsner beat Nelson 6-2 in the quarters, but Nelson got his revenge with a 6-2 decision for fifth.

Kapsner concluded the season 38-6 and in sixth place.

Senior teammate Jake Andres was one-and-done Saturday as he was eliminated by Justin Stauffacher who beat Andres in last year's state tournament as well.

This time Andres fell 3-1 to finish his season 41-8.
