ANNANDALE — Brainerd’s Max Darkow won the boys race and the Warriors boys and girls both captured the Annandale Invite Tuesday, Jan. 14 at Powder Ridge.
It was the first varsity win for Darkow who clocked a 43.67 for his two runs.
Also finishing in the top 10 for Brainerd were Gavin Hoielzel who placed third. Cal Madison landed in sixth and Tony Elsenpeter ninth.
“Every meet we have a different Warrior in the front of the pack so that’s kind of exciting,” said Brainerd head coach Jim Ruttger.
The Warrior girls were led by fourth-place Emma Hiebert followed by Erin Hoelzel in eighth, Maddie Kalenberg in ninth and Maddie Peterson in 12th.
“We had some girls go down so this was a testimony to the depth of the girls’ team,” said Ruttger. “Orono and Wayzata were both here and are section teams with strong programs so this was a nice benchmark for us.”
