Matt Allord tucked in a pair of goals for Brainerd in a 5-4 victory over Dakota United Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Riverside Elementary in Brainerd.
“It has been a while since we have been in a game this competitive,” said Brainerd head coach Todd Person. “It was good for our players to get a taste of what the state tournament may be like.”
A quick goal by Dakota at the start of the game was countered by Allord’s first score and a Kaydn Robinson goal to put Brainerd up 2-1. An Eddy Nelson goal tied the game, but Allord and Tre’Von Otey slipped in goals nine seconds apart late in the period for a 4-2 Warrior lead at the first intermission.
Cadence Atwater scored the eventual game-winner 2:39 into the second period.
Robinson finished with a goal and three assists while Blaise Edinger had three assists.
“Our starting group of Matt Allord, Blaise Edinger, Kaydn Robbinson and Tre'Von Otey gave everything they had tonight,” said Person. “Cadence Atwater gave us a lot of time off the bench tonight as did Alex Goedker.”
It’s the 49th straight victory for Brainerd.
