MAPLE GROVE — Sophomore Abby Thompson scored five goals and assisted on two others for the Brainerd Warriors who extended their winning streak to 53 games with a crushing 18-0 defeat of the Maple Grove Crimson Thursday, Feb. 13.
“Maple Grove had three players out in tonight's game, including their top scorer,” said Brainerd head coach Todd Person. “Our starting group took a backseat and let the new players have the majority of the time on the floor and they responded well.
“Contributions came from newcomer Abby Thompson who scored her first goal of the season and ended up scoring five goals total. Cadence Atwater continued her improving play with four goals along with a hat trick from senior Karlee Schuler.”
Schuler tallied a natural hat trick when she punched in three consecutive goals in less than two minutes during the second period. Tre’Von Otey and Hunter Zilka added two goals each. Matt Allord and Blaise Edinger completed the Warrior scoring.
“The Warriors played complete team hockey with a total of 13 assists from six different players,” said Person.
Atwater led the team with three assists to finish with seven points. Alex Goedker, Kaydn Robinson and Allord had two assists apiece.
Tate Boelter and Robinson combined for the shutout seeing only two shots. Brainerd peppered the Crimson goal with 42 shots.
Brainerd defeated Maple Grove 11-4 Jan. 16.
The Warriors are 9-0 this year and will end their regular season with two conference games next week against Mounds View and Anoka.
