Eighty-five Brainerd students in grades 8-12 raised over $13,000 in the 31st annual Sertoma Sunrise Warrior Liftathon, which took place from March 29 to April 1 at the Brainerd High School weight room.

Funds were raised for charitable organizations and those in need in the Brainerd area. Participants were divided into nine fundraising teams with 8-10 lifters per team.

The Sertoma Club recognizes the top three fundraising teams and the top male and female Liftathon Most Pounds Per Ounce winners.

Senior Javan Hemsworth was the boys MPPO winner for the second consecutive year. Senior Sara Schiller was the girls MPPO winner.

Senior Harry Carlson was also recognized for participating in the Liftathon in each of the five years he was eligible for the competition.

The top three fundraising teams and their Sertoma captains were:

First place:

Anika Aho, Grant Gardiepy, Erin Hoelzel, Autumn Schiller, Malina Schiller, Sara Schiller, Gabe Wagner, Dominik Waytashek, Brenna Deason and Harry Carlson. The team was captained by Scott Parsons.

Second place:

Javan Hemsworth, Jacob Holm, Caden Jager. Dane Murray, Iyana Pickar, Joslin Ray, Noah Rushmeyer, Josh Stark and Conner Erickson. The team was captained by Kevin Wernberg and Pat Pickar.

Third place:

Cody Becker, Simon Boyd, Riley DeRosier, Liam Luther, Joey Otto, Carter Springer, Nathaniel Staehling, Macin Freed and Paige Byer. The team was captained by Alyssa Sharp and Greg Olson.
