Jake Heikkenen collected seven points with three goals and four assists and Blaise Edinger also notched a hat trick and had a pair of assists to lead the Brainerd Warriors Wednesday to a 9-3 North Conference win at Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound-Westonka.

Jacob Heinlen, Matt Allord and Maddox Canon added goals for the defending state champion Warriors, who are 2-0 in the conference, 5-0 overall.

"We were short a few players tonight, but the players we had gave all they could and played a ton of minutes," said Brainerd head coach Todd Person. "The game started slow and Robbinsdale did an excellent job of keeping it close until midway through the second period when our starting group began finding their rhythm."

The two teams were tied 1-1 after the first period of play with Edinger netting his first goal to open the scoring.

Brainerd exploded for four goals in less than two minutes in the second period as Edinger completed his hat trick and Heinlen and Heikkenen added scores.

"Blaise Edinger really had a fantastic game," said Person. "He converted the hat trick on three nice passes and showed excellent effort on the defensive end of the floor."

The Warriors put the game out of reach in the third by scoring three more goals, two by Heikkenen and one by Heinlen, for an 8-1 lead. Robbinsdale added a pair of meaningless goals and Canon wrapped up the scoring for Brainerd at the end.

"Cody Vleck is still unable to play out on the floor," said Person, "but did an amazing job in the front defensive chair of keeping many of Robbinsdale's opportunities from even getting back to Karlee Schuler in net."

Schuler was credited with four saves as Brainerd outshot Robbinsdale 37-7.
