All-Area Football: Prolific Pierz claims six spots

Thanks to a Class 3A state title and a perfect 13-0 season the top-ranked Pierz Pioneers placed six players on this year's Brainerd Dispatch All-Area Team.

Thanks to a Class 3A state title and a perfect 13-0 season the top-ranked Pierz Pioneers placed six players on this year's Brainerd Dispatch All-Area Team.

Brainerd was next with five roster spots followed by Section 8-3A runner-up Pequot Lakes with three players on the 22-player roster.

The All-Northeast Subdistrict Blue and Co-Subdistrict Defensive Player of the year rushed for 1,137 yards and 9 touchdowns on 210 carries (5.4 yards-per-carry average). Defensively he finished with 118 tackles, 4 sacks and 1 fumble recovery.

The All-North Central District, All-Section 8-5A and the team's most valuable player rushed for 661 yards and 11 touchdowns on 125 carries (5.3 yards-per-carry average). He caught 16 passes for 183 yards and 1 touchdown. Defensively he finished with 56 tackles, 3 interceptions, 1 forced fumble and 5 pass breakups.

The All-North Central District and All-Section 8-5A player led the Warriors with 128 tackles to go with 1 QB pressure, 1 pass breakup, 1 fumble recovery and 1 blocked punt. He caught 2 passes for 9 yards and 1 touchdown.

Led the Rangers with 105 tackles (33 assists, 72 solo), 3 sacks, 5 QB pressures and added 1 interception and 1 pass breakup.

The All-Midwest District selection and District Player of the Year and Quarterback of the Year threw for 1,462 yards and 15 touchdowns on 79-of-129 passing (61.2 completion percentage). He rushed for 749 yards and 8 touchdowns on 77 carries (9.7 yards-per-carry average). He caught 1 pass for 39 yards and a touchdown. Defensively he finished with 78 tackles (56 solo, 22 assists), 2 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, 8 interceptions and 20 pass breakups.
