Alpine Skiing: Aga wins at NJRS Alpine meet

Emily Aga of Brainerd clocked the fastest race time, 1:02.79, to clinch first-place honors Sunday in the Northland Junior Race Series (NJRS) Alpine meet at Mont Du Lac in Superior, Wis.

Emily Aga of Brainerd clocked the fastest race time, 1:02.79, to clinch first-place honors Sunday in the Northland Junior Race Series (NJRS) Alpine meet at Mont Du Lac in Superior, Wis.

Aga was one of 51 skiers representing the Mount Ski Gull (MSG) Alpine Racing Team at the meet. Thirteen other MSG skiers finished in the top three of their age divisions.

Zeke Johnson, Crosslake, placed third in the boys 5 and under division. Sunnie Ruttger of Baxter took third in the girls 6-7 age group. In the boys 6-7 division, Joseph Neumann of Brainerd won the title.

In the girls 8-9 category, Lauren Kalenberg, East Gull Lake, and Aubrey Wiczek, Nisswa, placed second and third, respectively. Brandon Niefert of Baxter won in boys 10-11.

Madison Kalenberg of East Gull Lake finished second in the girls 12-13 age group. Grace McGuire of Pine River won the top spot in girls 14-15. Grant Kosobud, Nisswa, Matt Sherman, Nisswa, and Cameron Steffen, Crosslake, captured the top three spots in the boys 14-15 division.

Following Aga in girls 16-17 were Hannah Moen of Brainerd in second place. In boys 16 and over, Grant Madison of East Gull Lake placed second.

The next NJRS race will be Sunday, Feb. 8, at Giants Ridge in Biwabik. Mount Ski Gull will host the sixth meet of the season Feb. 22.
