TAYLORS FALLS — Esten Hiebert led the Brainerd boys to a second-place team finish with his third-place time of 1:02.56 Friday, Dec. 17, at the 2021 Wild Mountain Invite.

The boys finished with 586 points to be second. Parker Linn finished 28th with a time of 1:10.77 while Emmett Johnson was 32nd in 1:11.19.

“We accomplished what we did without Sean Baumann today who was sick,” Warriors head coach Jim Ruttger said. “Also Gavin Hoelzel had the fifth fastest run on his second run, but had fallen on his first run. So to accomplish that was pretty impressive for our opening race.”

The girls were led by Lauren Kalenberg who placed sixth in 1:10.34. The girls team finished fourth with 535 points with three girls in the top 25.

Calia Chaney was 14th in 1:12.11 and Hannah Taylot placed 25th in 1:13.74 for the Warriors.

“I think everyone held back in the first run,” Ruttger said. “It was a little bit of the first meet mentality and they really charged hard in the second run. To get fourth place out of that field is a great result.”
