KIMBALL — Brainerd’s Gavin Hoelzel won the boys race and the Warriors girls placed all four scorers in the top six to capture the girls' team title in the Tri-Meet Tuesday, Feb 2, at Powder Ridge.
Hoelzel was second after the first run with a 23.58. He earned the top of the podium when he clocked a 23.54 on his second run.
“We were happy for Gavin today,” Warrior head coach Jim Ruttger said. “He was fun to watch. Gavin’s only a sophomore, but this was his second varsity win. He won at Detroit Mountain last year.”
Brainerd finished second as a team with Brandon Neifert placing fourth, Sean Baumann seventh and Emmet Johnson 12th.
Lauren Kalenberg led the Warrior girls with a combined 51.38 that placed her third individually. Erin Hoelzel was next in fourth followed by Alli Krantz fifth and Calia Chaney sixth.

“It was a solid night for the girls,” Ruttger said. “On any given night, any one of the four could lead the pack. Last week it was Calia.”
