BIWABIK-The Brainerd boys placed second and fifth and the Warrior girls came away with a pair of third-place finishes in the Martin Luther King Holiday Dual Salom Saturday, Jan. 19 at Giants Ridge.
The meet featured two races, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, each with two runs.
"We want to bring our top skiers there because it is the site for the state meet every year," said Brainerd head coach Jim Ruttger. "This is a good race to do that, even though it was 27-degrees below zero this morning, but it warmed up to minus nine in the afternoon.
"We go to see a lot of teams we don't compete against. Stillwater swept both the girls and boys in both the morning and afternoon."
Brandon Neifert finished fourth in the morning race leading the boys to second-place and again paced his teammates in the afternoon finishing ninth for the fifth-place Warriors.

Erin Hoelzel was eighth in the morning and Emma Hiebert ninth in the afternoon to lead the Brainerd girls to third place behind Stillwater and St. Cloud both times.
