Amateur Baseball: Bees go 2-1 in Cold Springs

Brainerd Bees play three games over the weekend of July 24-25


COLD SPRING — Colin Kleffman ripped two doubles and Phil Zynda also tallied a double in the Brainerd Bees’ 8-4 loss to the Moorhead Mudcats Saturday, July 24, in Game One of the Nic Bell Classic in Cold Spring.

Eric Martin also went 2-3 in the loss as the Bees used three pitchers in Ben Dornseif, Carter Holtzleicer and Tim Martin.

The Bees bounced in their second game Saturday against East Grand Forks to win 11-4. Brainerd recorded 11 runs on 14 hits in the win.

Zynda went 3-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Tom Fairbanks recorded two hits including a triple. Gunnar Wicklund had two hits with a double and an RBI.

Eric Martin and Joel Martin each had both hits apiece with Eric Martin ripping a double in the win.


Brian Voigt pitched a complete game and struck out four to earn the win.

Brainerd won its third game of the weekend Sunday, July 25, with a 5-2 dispatching of Hamel.

Eric Martin pitched a complete game and struck out four. He was perfect through four innings before a single in the fifth broke it out. He allowed four hits and two earned runs in the win.

Eric Martin helped himself out at the plate going 1-2 with an RBI. Joel Martin, Eli Roberts and Fairbanks all picked up RBIs in the Bees win over Hamel. Voigt ripped a double as well.

The Bees are now 8-9 overall and will play two games Saturday, July 31.
