Amateur Baseball: Buckman bullies Bulldogs

BUCKMAN--Matt Kummet went 2-4 with a solo homer and a double for the Buckman Billygoats who defeated the Pierz Bulldogs 17-1 in seven innings Sunday, June 9, in an East Division game.

Lane Girtz and Noah Boser both went 3-5 with a double for Buckman which was playing its third game in two days. Winning pitcher Matt Tautges and Jack Suska were 3-4 while Travis Kahl was 2-4 and Andrew Rueckert contributed a double.

The big inning for the Billygoats came in the bottom of the fifth when they plated nine runs with nine hits from seven different batters to take a 17-1 lead.

The Bulldogs got their only run in the top of the fifth when Logan Meyer and Michael Leidenfrost singled. Meyer, who finished 2-3, scored on an error.

Buckman 6, Swanville 2

BUCKMAN-Shawn Lanners finished 3-4 with a solo home run, double, two RBIs and was the winning pitcher for the Buckman Billygoats in a 6-2 victory over the Swanville Swans in non-division play Sunday, June 9.

Noah Boser added a double for the Billygoats who trail the division leading Pierz Lakers by half a game.

Aitkin, St. Mathias split

ST. MATHIAS-Jeremy Janzen struck out 15 in a complete-game performance for the Aitkin Steam who defeated the St. Mathias Devils 6-5 in a North Division doubleheader Sunday, June 9.

Quinn Miller went 3-4 with an RBI for Aitkin which scored a run in each of the first six innings. Taylor Whiteoak, Jake Hyttinnen and Drew Olson each finished with two hits. Whiteoak and Jake Lynn had doubles.

Connor Knettel went 2-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored for St. Mathias. Gunnar Wicklund scored all three times he reached base. He doubled, walked and was hit by a pitch.

In the other game, the Devils outhit Aitkin 10-7 on their way to a 5-3 win.

Bulldogs 10, Royalton 5

ROYALTON-Ryan Foreman finished 4-6 for the Pierz Bulldogs who erupted for eight runs in the top of the first on their way to a 10-5 East Division victory over the Royalton Riverdogs Sunday, June 9.

Peter Schommer add three hits for Pierz. Craig Luberts and Dylan Kummet had two each.

Logan Meyer got the win. He gave up three runs over six innings. David Skiba tossed the final three innings to earn a save.

Avon 6, Nisswa 5

NISSWA-Jeremiah Piepkorn and Jason Roepke each belted solo homers for the Nisswa Lighting who were edged 6-5 by the unbeaten Avon Lakers in a non-division game Sunday, June 9.

Piepkorn finished 2-5 adding a double and Roepke was 2-3. Chris Peterson and Morgan Shepherd added two hits each.

Sobieski 3, Upsala 0

SOBIESKI-Tyler Jendro and Thomas Miller combined efforts to toss a four-hit shutout for the Sobieski Skis who christened their remodeled park with a 3-0 win over the Upsala Blue Jays in a West Division game Sunday, June 9.

Jendrostruck out four, walked one and allowed three hits over six innings. Miller allowed just one hit over the final three innings to earn a save.

Collin Eckman went 2-4 for the Skis with a double, RBI and two runs. Dusty Parker was 2-3 with a sacrifice fly and two RBIs and Jendro finished with two hits.

Upsala 9, Buckman 4

BUCKMAN-Matt Tautges belted a three-run homer for the Buckman Billygoats in a 9-4 non-division loss to the Upsala Blue Jays Saturday, June 8.

Joe Kahl contributed an RBI single for the Billygoats who scored all four of their runs in the seventh inning after falling behind 8-0. Mark Kahl finished 2-3 with a double.
